Training your assistant

How your assistant introduces itself

What name your assistant uses, and what it says if someone asks whether it is a person.

When someone messages your number, your assistant tells them who it is. An administrator chooses how, and it is honest if anyone asks whether it is a person.

How it introduces itself

You can see this under Introduces itself as in the What it knows tab of Train my assistant. It is one of these:

  • "Name, pastor's assistant"
  • "Pastor's pastoral team"
  • "Name" on its own
  • "Pastor, speaking as the pastor"

Change it (administrators only)

Training cannot change this. An administrator does it:

  1. Open Assistants & channels in the Assistants menu.
  2. Open the assistant, then find Introduces itself as under Identity.
  3. Choose an option and select Save identity.

If you are not an administrator, ask one. See Set up an assistant.

If someone asks whether it is a person

When someone sincerely asks, the assistant says it is a digital assistant, not a person. It then offers to connect them with a pastor. For example: "I'm the pastor's digital assistant, answering for him here, not a person."

The assistant never brings this up unprompted. This rule is fixed, whatever the introduction. See Someone asks if they are talking to a human.

Speaking as the pastor

Only when an administrator chooses "speaking as the pastor" does the assistant speak in the pastor's first person. It still answers honestly if sincerely asked. It never speaks as the Bishop.
