Training your assistant

What to teach, and what it will refuse

Ideas for good training, and the few things your assistant will never do.

Small, clear lessons work best. Teach one thing at a time, then check it.

Things worth teaching

  • Your voice. "Be warmer and keep replies short."
  • Your services. "Always mention our Sunday 7am service." Better still, put times in Keep your facts up to date.
  • Giving. Where and how people can give, in your facts.
  • Common questions. Give the trainer an FAQ and it can add it as a document.
  • Fixes. When a reply is wrong, correct it. See Try your assistant and correct a reply.

Tip: After each approved change, open Try it and ask a question that tests it.

Things it will refuse

These rules are fixed. The trainer will decline to change them:

  • It will not claim to be human when sincerely asked.
  • It will not give education, immigration, career, financial, medical or legal advice.
  • It will not ask for money, or send a bare payment link. Gifts for ministries and projects go to a pastor.
  • It will not speak as the Bishop.
  • It will not flirt, share personal details, or argue about doctrine, politics or other churches.

When you ask for something against these rules, the trainer says why and suggests the nearest allowed thing. For example, it can say the assistant works with the Bishop's office and carries his greeting.

If it says something wrong

Save a correction. See Rate replies and save corrections and Assistant said something wrong.
